Memorial Rules & Regulations

Suitable memorial work may be placed upon all purchased plots and graves, but it must be in accordance with the regulations and specifications of the Cemetery and receive approval of the Cemetery. Statues not a permanent part of the memorial, dolls, toys, trinkets, glass holders, votive candles or other decorative or devotional objects are not permitted.

Monuments must not exceed the following relative dimensions:

a. Maximum width not exceed 60% of the width of the lot.

b. Maximum depth not exceed 10% of the depth of the lot.

c. Maximum height not exceed 3’6”, including base.

If any effigy or inclosure, or any inscription placed in or upon any lot, which shall be determined by the Cemetery to be offensive or inappropriate or injurious to the appearance of the surrounding lots or grounds, they shall have the right and it shall be their duty to enter upon such lot and remove the said offensive or improper object.

All foundations shall be constructed by or under the direction of the Cemetery.

No monument will be allowed to be delivered in the Cemetery until the foundation is installed and ready to receive the monument.

If it is necessary to remove the memorials and foundations from a plot for an interment within said plot, the cost of removing and replacing will be charged to the lot owner.

**Oakwood Cemetery will not accept delivery of any monuments purchased online. All monuments must be sent to an insured monument setter for placement in the cemetery.

Hundreds of people visit Oakwood Cemetery each year. Because the Cemetery is open to the public, it is impossible to control the activity of every visitor. We regret we cannot guarantee memorials, plantings or decorations from damage or disappearance.

Visitors are reminded that these grounds are sacredly devoted to the interment of the dead, and that a strict observance of the decorum which should characterize such a place will be required by all. Any person disturbing the quiet and good order of the Cemetery by noise or other improper conduct will be compelled instantly to leave the grounds.
